Up to seventy of the UK’s top climbers are expected to descend on ice factor Kinlochleven on saturday 1st November to contest the Scottish mixed masters.
Ice Factor will donate £10 of every £26 entry fee to the local Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team to help the volunteers fund a new extension to their base station and to replace vital equipment that was stolen in a break-in last year.
The ‘Scottish Mixed Masters’ will see competitors as young as 13 years-old challenged to scale a mixed route of ice and rock.
Last November, Ice Factor’s Festival of Ice also attracted almost 70 climbers and raised over £2,000 for the charity Climbers Against Cancer. 2013 men’s winner Greg Boswell and 13 year-old Emma Powell (3rd in ladies last year and one of the UK’s top youth climbers) are among the leading names expected to return to the facility that’s located 15 miles south of Fort William in Scotland’s west highlands.
Co-organiser Kevin Shields, an Ice Factor / Lyon supported athlete renowned for his all-round climbing abilityexplained why the Scottish Mixed Masters is an event not to be missed: “The Scottish Mixed Masters looks set to once again attract some of the country’s leading climbers to Ice Factor Kinlochleven. We plan to have a youth, men’s and women’s category and I’m also hoping we can attract some para sport climbers (climbers with a disability).
“It will be good fun, a great craic and benefit the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team. Three good reasons of many to make the journey on 1 November to Ice Factor to compete or spectate!”
