“Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand” Chinese proverb.
Ice Factor has become one of the biggest providers of Adventure Trips and Outdoor Education Adventure Activities for school and youth groups.
From our base 6 miles from the world heritage site of Glencoe, we are lucky enough to be situated in the Outdoor Capital of the UK. For that reason, we are uniquely placed to offer a range of adventure activities for all ages and abilities, whatever the conditions.
Did you know: There are more mountains over 3,000ft surrounding the Ice Factor than there are in every national park area of England and Wales combined.
Ice Factor is the National Centre for Ice Climbing and the Regional Centre of Excellence for the Mountaineering Council, enjoying full ALAA status.
The range of activities on offer at Ice Factor is unrivaled in the UK. Our £3.5m flag-ship facility offers a truly unique environment for keeping students motivated, engaged and happy from breakfast to bed-time.
Tailored to every child
Our staff have extensive youth coaching and development expertise which has been honed and refined over many years of working with youth groups and schools. This means we ensure every session, on every course is tailored to suit the needs of the children.
With a focus on bitesize skills for big outcomes, we seek to enrich the lives of our customers young and old. Our activities not only build confidence, offer a sense of achievement and teach skills, they can spark a passion for the outdoors and an active lifestyle.
Our students therefore benefit not only from the initial course but from longer term gains including the physical and mental health benefits that come with partaking in an active activity which will hopefully lead to a more active adulthood.
For some this comes in the thrill of learning to Ice Climb and achievement that first ascent brings. For others it’s making the leap of faith to try something new and succeed. But for most children, it is the joy of a shared experience that makes Ice Factor a unique destination for outdoor adventure educators.
Who we work with
Over the years, our staff have operated with Active Schools Coordinators and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award providing multi-activity breaks, expedition training and support. Our remit has enabled us to work with Scout Groups, Scout Leaders, Boys Brigade, Cadet Units, Primary and Secondary Schools, Adventure Outward Bound Groups and a plethora of youth charities over the years.
We offer multi-day courses for Schools and Youth Groups as well as single day course programmes depending on their needs and requirements.
Operating our activities through the Anderson Mountain Trust enables us to subsidise activities for disadvantaged children. This means we can provide one free place, subject to application form, for each group of 12 children booked on a course.
